New and Improved PIPE CALC: Equipment Planner, Cutter Travel and Metric Units
Enerteq Solutions has updated PIPE CALC, its free ASME pipe dimension calculator for hot tap, line stop and pipeline integrity work. The improved PIPE CALC now works together with a Hot Tap Equipment Planner and a Cutter Travel calculator on the same page, so one pipe selection carries through dimensions, equipment selection and travel planning.
What’s New
- Calculate button: select a pipe size from 1/2″ to 36″, 40″ or 42″ and a schedule, then press Calculate to get the OD, wall thickness and ID from ASME B36.10 and B36.19 data. The schedule list shows only the schedules defined for the selected size (5S, 10S, 10, 20, 30, 40, 40S, STD, 80, 80S, XS, 160 and XXS).
- Results carry into the planner: for pipe 2″ and larger, the run size, OD and wall fill in automatically, and the Hot Tap Equipment Planner and Cutter Travel sections open.
- Split-frame clamshell recommendation: for pipe 2″ and larger, Calculate also shows the best-fit split-frame clamshell for cold cutting. The model is chosen from the data sheet working ranges (CS6 to CS48, 2″ to 48″) by where the pipe’s OD falls in each range, and comes with a Request A Quote button.
- Hot Tap Equipment Planner: choose hot tap, or hot tap plus line stop, the tap size and pressure class, and enter the operating pressure and temperature. Press Find My Tools & Equipment to see one best-fit Propipe product for each item: hot tap machine, power, adapter, slim valve, fitting, cutter and pilot drill, and for line stops the housing, head and actuator. Recommendations come from Enerteq’s data sheets, and the planner flags any rating the application exceeds.
- Cutter Travel: enter the measurements taken on the assembled equipment and press Calculate Cutter Travel. The calculation uses the Propipe measurement method (A, B, Ref1 and cutter OD) for PTM-2000 and larger machines, and the PTM-1000 method, including the threaded plug setting reading, for PTM-1000 jobs. Results are checked against the machine stroke and the valve or fitting bore.
- Imperial or metric: one switch sets all three calculators to imperial (in, psi, °F) or metric (mm, bar, °C), with pipe sizes shown as DN in metric.
- Other manufacturers’ equipment: enter your own cutter OD, machine stroke and valve bore to use the travel calculation with equipment from other manufacturers.
- Request A Quote: each recommended product has a Request A Quote button, plus one for the full list. The product, part number and application carry into the Contact form.
- Reset: each calculator has its own Reset button. The Reset under the pipe size and schedule clears all three.
How to Use the Improved PIPE CALC
- Select the pipe size and schedule, and choose imperial or metric units.
- Press Calculate to see the pipe dimensions and fill in the planner.
- Complete the application and press Find My Tools & Equipment.
- Enter the cutter travel measurements and press Calculate Cutter Travel.
- Request a quote for any item or for the full equipment list.
Built for Hot Tap and Line Stop Planning
The improved PIPE CALC is designed for engineers, procurement teams and distributors who plan hot tap and line stop work. Results are preliminary guidance based on Propipe data sheets and machine manuals. Always verify by hand that the cutter passes through the valve and fitting, follow the machine manual, and confirm equipment selection with Enerteq Solutions before the job.
Online Tools: Pipe Calc and Seal Calc
- Pipe Calc: calculates ASME pipe ID, OD and wall thickness, recommends best-fit Propipe hot tap and line stop equipment, and calculates cutter travel, in imperial or metric units.
- Seal Calc: a 2-step tool for preliminary selection of line stop seal materials. Results are based on user inputs and do not replace professional engineering review.
Reference: ASME B36.10 (welded and seamless wrought steel pipe) and ASME B36.19M (stainless steel pipe) define pipe dimensions and wall thicknesses by schedule.
